This is a summary of the essential information you will want to know before making a reservation.  
 
 
General Conditions

All rentals are subject to the terms and conditions of the Rental Contract signed at the Cruise America or Cruise Canada office upon vehicle departure. The Rental Contract is the governing document between you (the Client) and Cruise America/Cruise Canada. Rental prices, policies, and conditions are subject to change without notice.

 

First Overnight

You are not allowed to drive a motorhome on flight arrival day. Your first overnight in North America, after an international flight, should be in an hotel.

 

Pick up and Drop off times

Call the Rental Centre in the morning to arrange what time to arrive at the Rental Centre for your afternoon (1300 to 1600 hours) departure. Transfers to the Rental Centre are not included in your prepaid rental charges.

Vehicles are to be returned by 9:00 AM (0900 hours) and in no case later than 11:00 AM (1100 hours.) A fee of $25 per hour will be charged for each hour that the vehicle is overdue without pre authorisation.

 

Early Bird Departure Special (EBDS) – Optional Extra

If you pre book the EBDS you may

  • Collect your motorhome between 0900 and 1200
  • Return your vehicle between 0900 and 1500
  • Receive free transfers from a designated hotel to the rental centre at the start of your rental
  • Receive a free transfer to the airport or a designated hotel at the end of your rental

Driver Requirements

Minimum age for rental of a motorhome is 21; there are no additional charges for additional drivers and drivers under 25.  A valid driver’s license and passport must be presented by all drivers at the depot. 

 

Luggage Storage

Soft collapsible luggage is recommended on camping vacations, which you should take with you. Remaining luggage may be stored at most rental centres, all at your risk.

 

Fuel

Vehicles are supplied with adequate propane for cooking and heating and a minimum one quarter tank of petrol.  Vehicles should be returned with the same fuel levels

 

Child Seats

Child seats are not supplied.  You should bring your own from the UK or purchase them locally

 

Security Deposit

A basic refundable security deposit of $500 USD/CDN and a credit card imprint are required on collection of vehicle.  Should you not possess a credit card the deposit is increased to $1,000 USD/ $1,500 CDN.

 

Problems en route

Cruise America operates a 24 hour customer assistance line.  They will provide assistance in cases of breakdown, damage to vehicle or faulty equipment

 

Accidents

In case of accidents, you must call the 24 hour help number provided and obtain a police report.  If you are unable to get a report at the scene then you should go to the nearest police station and obtain a bench report.

 

Travel Restrictions
 Vehicle are only permitted on bitumen roads and clients should consult with departure location personnel for complete information on travel restrictions and local circumstances at the time they collect their motorhome.
 
Travel is not permitted in the following areas

  • Death Valley and Desert Areas during July and August.
    During May, June and September you may drive into these areas at their own risk.  However insurance coverage in not included and thus if you drive your vehicle into these areas and have an accident or break-down you will be liable for 100% of associated costs
  • Logging Roads and Non public roads 
  • Manhattan
  • Mexico
  • Newfoundland

Insurance

Cost of the following cover is included in the rental

  • Auto liability – statutory and excess liability up to $1,000,000
  • Damage loss- Excess of $500 applies; all other damage/loss is covered
  • Trip reimbursement – in the event that the motorhome breaks down during rental and cannot be reasonably repaired within 24 hours – costs of up to $3000 for alternative arrangements are covered (breakdown of on board facilities, such as fridge, microwave etc do not stop the vehicle travelling so are excluded from this coverage)

Parking and traffic violations

Any fines incurred during the rental period are the responsibility of the driver.  If they are not paid at the time of occurrence, your credit card is liable for the fine charge plus an administration fee.
