Angie Watson is one of the two owners of Experience Holidays (along with Yvonne). Angie has always had a keen interest in travel, and has worked in the industry since leaving college, where she studied Travel and Tourism. She joined Experience Holidays in 2009, and has since had the opportunity to travel to some amazing places both for work and on personal holidays – giving her husband little choice in the destination, although he’s not been disappointed yet! Some of her favourites follow…
This is a country that I simply can’t get enough of! My most recent visit included time on Kangaroo Island with its fantastic wildlife, the beautiful Great Ocean Road, as well as time in Tropical North Queensland and a chance to snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef. The diversity of this huge country enthrals me, and each visit leaves me keen to explore more. The wildlife, the changing landscapes, the friendly people, the history and of course the culture.
A visit to New Zealand feels like coming home – in some ways so like England, but in others so different. I love the stunning scenery – rolling farmland in the north island, and rugged mountains and glaciers in the south island. In 2013, I visited the lesser-known far south of the country – the wildlife of the Catlins and Stewart Island were particular highlights for me.
I’ve visited Hong Kong several times, with a family history there it somehow got beneath my skin, and is one of my favourite places in the world! Considered by many to be simply a city stay, or a stopover en route to Australasia, in my opinion Hong Kong works perfectly well as a holiday in its own right – exploring the beaches, islands and countryside as well as the delights of the city itself.
My most recent trip was to Vietnam, and was a real eye opener – Halong Bay is a magical place and one I most definitely want to return to. The crazy scooter traffic of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi has to be seen to be believed, and the history of Hue adds another element to a visit. Hoi An has a gorgeous beach as well as a historic centre and vibrant markets. It’s somewhere I plan to explore further one day – a truly fascinating country.
United States & Canada
I love a good road trip, and both Canada and the United States are perfect for this, with wide open roads, varied and spectacular scenery and exciting cities to explore. To date, my favourite city in the States is San Francisco, but my favourite road trip was to quaint New England. In Canada, I love the ranches and cosmopolitan Vancouver.
Having spent my honeymoon there, South Africa has a special place in my heart – my first proper safari experience and one that I will never forget. South Africa is next on my list for a return visit, but this time to explore Cape Town and the Garden Route – perhaps sneaking a short safari on to the end!
